For many years I have considered the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday, a federal holiday, to be a special day to me. Not because of what I learned in elementary, middle, or high school. Not because of the murals I see spray painted on the sides of walls & buildings in cities all over our nation. Not because I have driven down more Martin Luther King Jr. boulevards, avenues, streets, places, bridges, & roads in countless cities. Not because of the ‘I Have A Dream’ speech.

I have considered this a special memorial day, because Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and work has personally effected my life in many many ways. And, I won’t detail all those ways today in this blog post, because I have posted them in blogs past.

Instead, I just want to share with you, one thing that I remember about Dr. King. That one thing is this:

ONE MAN CANNOT CHANGE A NATION’S CONSCIENCE ON HIS OWN. HE NEEDS A HOST OF SUPPORT FROM OTHER BRAVE SOULS WILLING TO STAND FOR JUSTICE, IN LOVE, NO MATTER THE COST. BUT, IN THE FACE OF GREAT OPPOSITION & ADVERSITY, WHEN THE ODDS SEEM TO BE STACKED AGAINST THE CAUSE OF THE COURAGEOUS, IF THAT ONE MAN DID NOT STAND, THEN OTHERS WOULD NOT HAVE STOOD EITHER.

ONE MAN CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
